Majordomo Help |
Majordomo
|
|
DALnet uses the automated mailing list manager called "majordomo." This is a very easy program for you to use, and with a few basic commands you can learn a lot about the lists that are available to you.

Commands
|
The format for sending commands is simple. All commands to our majordomo are sent in an email message to majordomo@dal.net.
You send one command per line in the body of your message, and you can send as many commands
as you need to in the same message. Majordomo ignores anything in the subject line of your mail.
The most basic majordomo command is a common user plea, HELP! To send this request, you would type
the following in the body of your letter:
help end
The "end" command above tells majordomo to ignore everything that comes after it, thus it will not try to
interpret your signature file if you have one. Majordomo will send you back a reference list of commands
that you can use to interact with.
Another very common command is "lists." This will tell you what lists are available for you to subscribe
to on that majordomo server. Once you have determined what you want, send majordomo a "subscribe" command
for each. For example:
subscribe dalnet-announce subscribe dalnet-services end
If a user forgets what lists he/she is subscribed to, the "which" command may be utilized:
which foo@bar.net end

If you've given majordomo your all and you still haven't been able to make it behave, feel free to mail
postmaster@dal.net and ask for help. Be sure to send as much detail
as possible, including the address or addresses where you receive your mail, and what lists you need help with.
