Due to abuse, DALnet has decided to restrict access for users on public VPN services.
By default, these users will be squelched until they identify to NickServ.
Q: What does squelch mean?
A: Squelch means they won't be able to send messages to anyone besides services.
Q: What if I still want to use public VPN?
A: You must have a registered nick in order to continue to use DALnet with a public VPN.
Q: Wouldn't abusers just register their nicks then?
A: Maybe, however, users who register nicks to abuse will find their nicks frozen very quickly. Also, we might ban VPN users completely from DALnet if this happens regularly.
Q: I am a channel founder/manager and I don't want VPN users on my channel at all, how can I do that?
A: /ChanServ XFLAG #channel NO_VPNS:ON
Q: I'm trying to /msg NickServ@services.dal.net but I'm getting "-server.dal.net- You are currently squelched. Message not sent."
A: Use /NickServ instead of /msg NickServ@services.dal.net.
If your client doesn't support /NickServ, you can try to use /quote NickServ instead.
Q: Can I use a disposable email address to register?
A: No.
Q: What happens if I identify to NickServ and then change my nick?
A: Nothing, you are allowed to change your nick after identifying and you won't be squelched again. With that said, IRC Operators will be able to see the registered nick you used to get un-squelched. |
